Ensuring our junior members are Safe
It is imperative that Warringah Triathlon Club is a club that support and protects all its members, especially the juniors.
For this reason, the club and its members should be fully aware of their responsibilities when working with juniors. Warringah Triathlon Club understands the need to protect children in our sport and has implemented a range of measures across club races, club sanctioned training and online interaction with junior members.
The club has appointed Graham Latta as the Child Safety Representative. Should any junior member or their parents / guardians feel the need to raise or clarify any matter in regards protecting a junior member’s safety they should contact Graham Latta (in the first instance) at [email protected] or by phone on 0426 206 763. If for any reason you don’t want to contact Graham Latta on a specific matter, then the club’s secondary contact is Christine Ryan, who can be contacted at [email protected]. If the matter needs to be raised outside of the Warringah Triathlon Club, then contact Adam Wicks (CEO, NSW TRI) on 0438 648 117.
It is strongly recommended that all club members are fully aware of their responsibility, regardless of their role in the club. All club members should familiarise themselves with the Triathlon Australia Member Protection Policy Member Protection (triathlon.org.au) and the Warringah Triathlon Club Child Safety and Protection Protocol which is available on the Warringah Triathlon Club website.
Child Safe Representatives will undertake child safe training educational sessions and also undertake the Child Safe Sport eLearning. Accredited coaches undertake further education as part of their coaching accreditation.
For those club members wishing to understand more in regards child protection and our responsibility a series of free eLearning modules are available on the Office of Child Guardian website eLearning | Office of the Children's Guardian (nsw.gov.au).
Warringah Triathlon Club will conduct an annual child safety risk assessment to identify any risks and implement effective controls. The current risk assessment is available on the Warringah Triathlon Club website.
Posters demonstrating Warringah Triathlon Club’s commitment to child safety will be displayed at club events.
Child Safe Representatives, key Warringah Triathlon Club personal and coaches will hold a current working with children certificate.
